San Diego Horse Rescue

Mission:

  • To provide a safe facility for horse owners to take their horses when faced with an issue with horse's health, training or owners personal situation which makes it so they are unable to care properly for their animal.
  • To be able buy horses with these issues or bound for slaughter.
  • To correct the training and/or health issues, if possible, of each horse in order to give them a good foundation for their future home.
  • When horses are deemed adoptable, to find suitable homes for them, in a public friendly manner of matching horses abilities with new owner’s expectations.
  • To educate the public on horses, and their care and needs and give the public and children a hands on experience with horses.

----BEFORE----

This is the way Thin Mint looked the day we brought her home.  She was so thin, as you can see, but she also had bed sores on her hip bones, shoulders and legs, b/c she didn't have the energy to stand up all the time like a normal healthy horse.  Her coat was a mess as she had a fungis  called rain rot all over her body and she had worms.  Her feet too where in horrible shape, probably years since she had seen a farrier .

----AFTER----

This is Thin Minty (we just starting calling her Minty - b/c she wasn't so Thin any more!) in 4 months.  Her wieght was back to normal and we put muscle tone back on her.  Her coat shins and all the sores and fungis are gone.  We ended up putting front shoes on her feet to keep her sound on the trails - she LOVES the trails and the KIDS.  You can see what a nice horse she is as this 12 year old girl took her in the July 4th parade with no issue.  This mare has been rehomed to a great home, but look at our READY for ADOPTION page for horses you can adopt.
